Watch: Sunday evening weather webcast

Light and moderate snow will affect Lenawee and western Washtenaw counties, first, before dawn with temperatures in the 20s. Temps remain below 25 degrees across all of southeast Michigan. The snow spreads throughout Detroit and all other cities south of 8 Mile Road during breakfast and through the 11 a.m. hour.

Heavier snow moves in and overtakes all of southeast Michigan by lunchtime. All roads and highways will become treacherous quickly. Snowfall rates will be at their greatest during the afternoon, just when many plan to go to Super Bowl parties. Chances are many big game get-togethers will have to be changed because of worsening, hazardous conditions. Blowing and drifting snow will make it nearly impossible to see, at times. The best place to be for any pre-Super Bowl and game-time coverage is at home and not in the elements.

Temperatures fall into the teens during the day.

By kickoff in Arizona, many Motor City area communities will have 6 inches of snow on the ground. The winter storm will not let up. It will have a gigantic wing span, strengthening to over 750 miles of snow from east to west.

Sunday night snow totals will be over 6 inches by midnight with light snow continuing to fall overnight.

Lenawee and Monroe Counties are set to accumulate the most snow: 10 to 12 inches. Detroit, the rest of Wayne County and Washtenaw County could get as much as 8 to 10 inches of snow.

Communities north of 8 Mile could see up to 8 inches of snowfall. This includes Livingston County and cities such as Birmingham, Novi, Mt. Clemens, Pontiac, Roseville, Southfield, Sterling Heights, Troy and Warren.

Neighborhoods in Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties will receive 4 to 6 inches of snow, which is still significant. There will be lesser amounts of snow as you go north.

Cold blast for the week

Temperatures take a nose dive Sunday night and Monday morning as the storm moves eastward. Lows at dawn will be near 5 degrees or lower. Wind chills will be below 0. Skies will be sunnier Monday and highs will only be in the low teens. Monday night lows will be near 0 and slippery.

Temperatures will be below freezing all week during both the day and night. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high just above 20 degrees.

More snow is possible Tuesday night and Wednesday. Hump Day will be in the 20s. Another cold blast hits Thursday for Detroit's Meridian Winter Blast. Thursday will see temps rise from 4 to 15 degrees. Friday and Saturday will have lows near 0 and highs in the middle and upper teens.
