Afternoon winds add to already strong chills

Expect few isolated light patches of snow

DETROIT – Clouds are rolling back in and a few flakes and flurries are all that you can expect.

The bigger story is the wind chill today as the breezes pick up through the afternoon. Highs in the mid teens will feel near or below zero for most of the day.

The coldest core of air comes in Thursday morning with an arctic cold front. We will see light snow around tomorrow morning as the winds crank NW 15-25 mph. Snow shouldn't be a major issue laying down a coating in many areas, but the timing is bad hitting during the morning commute. Western and Central Lower Michigan are under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight through tomorrow afternoon as snow and blowing snow will make traveling tougher to our west Thursday. Again, the bigger story is the cold with wind chills in the teens below zero early with afternoon highs only climbing into the mid teens.

Expect a very cold Friday morning with dangerous wind chills. Air temps will be -5 to -10 degrees which will bring a new record low to Detroit.  Most of Friday will be dry as highs hit the mid teens with a slight chance for a few snow showers late in the evening.

There's a good chance for light snow early Saturday from a fast moving clipper that may lay down a fresh inch of snow. And the models show another chance Sunday and early Monday for new snow totals of 1-2" possible.
