Mild temperatures, sunshine ahead on Saturday

Highs to reach near 70 degrees

DETROIT – The Detroit area's Mother's Day weekend will have sunshine one day and rain the next.

Saturday morning will be cool with clearing skies and temperatures in the 50s. Participants of the 2014 Walk To Cure Arthritis at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak will need a jacket to enjoy the pleasant weather.

By the time the 1 p.m. Tigers game against the Twins rolls around, skies will be mostly sunny with temperatures well into the 60s at Comerica Park and throughout Southeast Michigan. The afternoon will be milder with highs near 70 degrees outside the Wright Museum Of African American History and its 4 p.m. "My Amazing Mom" concert.

Saturday evening will have fair skies with temperatures in the 60s.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy and chillier with lows near 50 in Detroit and in the 40s in the rest of the region.

Mother's Day, which is Sunday, will be a good day for indoor activities. Families with tickets to the 1 p.m. Detroit Tigers game should pack their ponchos just to be safe. There is a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. It will be warmer, with highs in the upper 70s.

The forecast remains wet early next week. Showers and storms are possible Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A cooldown will arrive, too. Monday's daytime temperatures will reach the low 70s. Tuesday will be near 70. Wednesday will be in the 60s.
