Real spring weather on Tuesday, but more chances for accumulating snow

DETROIT – We have a brief taste of "real" spring weather coming our way, but don't get used to it.

The jet stream will dive back to the south this weekend into early next week, giving us temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below average as the winter that keeps on giving reasserts itself.

Clouds will increase tonight, with some light showers developing later at night.

As I mentioned yesterday, it's a race against time between warmer air moving in and light showers developing, so areas north of I-69 could see a brief period of freezing rain at the onset but, at this point, I don't think it's going to be a big problem. Lows in the low to mid 30s, with temps rising toward dawn. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 mph. Becoming windy on Wednesday with showers and even a few thundershowers.

Highs in the mid to upper 40s (perhaps even 50 in a few spots south of Detroit). Southwest wind at 20 to 30 mph, with higher gusts as any heavier showers pull stronger wind aloft down to the surface.

Breezy with some snow showers possible Wednesday night.

Those of you north of I-69 could see some minor accumulation (less than an inch). Lows in the upper 20s.

Cloudy and breezy Thursday morning with a light snow shower even possible, then becoming mostly sunny by mid afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s.

Increasing clouds on Friday, with highs in the low 40s. Okay, here's the latest on the Friday night storm: today's computer models suggest a chance of rain and snow Friday evening, then a changeover to all snow around or a little after midnight.

It's too early to try and get specific, but it appears that we could see some accumulation...probably in the 1" to 3" range, with most to the north and least to the south. Lows in the upper 20s.

Snow ends early Saturday morning, followed by partly cloudy skies. Highs in the upper 30s.

Partly cloudy to mostly sunny on Sunday, with highs near 30.

Increasing clouds Monday, with highs in the low to mid 30s.

More snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday, with accumulation possible. Highs Tuesday may struggle to reach 30.

Stay tuned …
