Partly sunny morning, showers in the afternoon

Highs in the 80s

DETROIT – The weekend looks and feels more like July, but showers and thunderstorms come with it. Storms could turn nasty before the end of Sunday.

Saturday morning will be mild and partly cloudy with increasing humidity. Temperatures will start in the 60s. This is the best time for anyone with outdoor chores that need to be completed before the weekend finishes to get them done. Also, the start of the Bayview to Mackinac race will be uneventful, weather-wise, but showers and storms are possible over Lake Huron during the competition. Good luck to the Green Horn Kids and their fathers!

Showers and thunderstorms will develop and move into Southeast Michigan Saturday afternoon as it gets warmer. APBA Gold Cup spectators and families going to Art In The Park in Plymouth or the Southfield Festival Of Hope need to prepare for rain, especially the second half of the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday. Some storms may have heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Nighttime lows will be in the upper 60s, and it remains muggy. Air conditioners will be needed to stay comfortable.

For now, the National Weather Service give areas of Southeast Michigan south of I-94 a "Slight Risk" of strong to severe thunderstorm activity Sunday. The Local 4 Casters app is an excellent tool to locate and track any showers or thunderstorms.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday morning and afternoon as temperatures close to 85 degrees. Ponding on roads, frequent lightning and gusty winds may occur. Remember to remain indoors if any strong storms present themselves.

Monday will still be warm and wet. Daytime temps will be in the upper 70s.

It will feel like October next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as much chillier air arrives. Record low temperatures are less likely than record low maximum temperatures each day.

Tuesday, July 15's record low is 50 degrees from 1971 and record low maximum is 60 degrees from 1945. Wednesday, July 16's record low is 49 degrees from 1945 and record low maximum is 70 from 1896. Thursday, July 17's record low is 46 degrees from 1978 and record low maximum is 70 degrees from 1924.

Afternoon highs next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will only be in the 60s and low to middle 70s, and it will be partly to mostly sunny with lingering showers Tuesday.
