Frigid start Monday with sunshine

Wind chills below zero

DETROIT – Monday afternoon will be very cold but partly to mostly sunny. Highs will be in the upper teens. Wind chills will be near 0 most of the day.

Monday evening will turn colder with temps in the middle and low teens. Anyone staying warm without central heat will need to use caution; keeping space heaters away from anything flammable and from toddlers or pets who could knock them over and extinguishing all flames from fireplaces or candles before going to bed.

Monday night will become frigid again with lows near 5 or lower. Wind chills will be near -10 by Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will be colder than average, too, with highs near or just above 20 degrees. Skies will be a mixture of sun and clouds, again.

Wednesday's highs will be in the middle and upper 20s. Increasing clouds will make the chance of snow showers possible Wednesday night and Thursday. Thursday's daytime temps will be in the low 30s.

Friday will be partly sunny and cold with highs in the 20s. Saturday will have the chance of snow return.
