Forecast: Widely scattered showers will diminish in metro Detroit

Cooler temps still on the way

DETROIT – As expected, we had significantly lower shower coverage this afternoon -- just some widely scattered, small showers that mainly affected the Thumb.

These will die off toward sunset, and we'll become mostly clear. If you're heading to the Tigers game at Comerica Park, you'll have a dry game with temps starting in the 70s, and then falling into the upper 60s by the end of the game. Overnight lows ranging from mid 50s in the coldest spots, to near 60° in Detroit's Urban Heat Island (14-15° Celsius, for you Canadians). Northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.

Sunday is also a difficult forecast due to the weakness of the upper level disturbance heading our way (the computer models are notorious for not handling these weak disturbances particularly well many days in advance). At this point, I think it's prudent to add the chance for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms, although this is by no means certain. I'll try to hone in on the specifics and update you in the next couple of days. Highs in the low 80s.
