Strong storms move through Metro Detroit area

Chances for rain persist rest of week

DETROIT – Scattered thunderstorms continue this evening with the potential for a few robust storms capable of dropping quarter-size hail, and strong wind gusts.

CHECK: Current Metro Detroit radar

Though unlikely, there was still a small chance for a brief, weak tornado to spin up with any storm -- particularly north of the metro area. Then a more widespread area of rain and thunderstorms -- with a lower chance for severe weather -- moves in later this evening.

Livingston and Oakland counties are no longer under a severe thunderstorm warning.

Lows near 50. South-southeast wind at 8 to 12 mph.

Wednesday forecast:

Partly cloudy on Wednesday with scattered afternoon showers popping up. Highs in the mid 60s. South wind at 10 to 15 mph. A chance of light showers Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 40s.

Rain chances continue off and on through Saturday, with highs in the 50s. It won't necessarily rain all day every day, but the chance is there each day.

However, I do have a piece of potential good news: today's computer models are suggesting that we might sneak in a dry day on Sunday, with a high in the upper 50s. I don't usually jump on an immediate change in the long range forecast, but enough models seem to agree that I'll be optimistic and go with a partly cloudy end to our weekend.

If you know Paul Gross, you know that I'm a professional when it comes to weekends, so I'll keep an eye on this and update you as I get more confident in the Sunday forecast.
