DETROIT – Mostly clear tonight with lows averaging in the mid 60s. Wind becoming calm.
It will be hazy, hot and humid on Tuesday, with highs near 90 degrees. South-southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph.
Tuesday has been declared another Ozone Action Day. Some people are still confused by this, but all this means is that gas-powered vehicle and lawn equipment exhaust, and gasoline fumes, will be impacted by sunshine, heat and humidity to create ozone. While the ozone layer 10 miles up is beneficial and protects us from some of the sun's ultraviolet rays, ozone here at the surface where you and I breath is not healthy.
So what can you do? It's easy: drive less if possible (combine errands, carpool), avoid using gasoline-powered lawn equipment (they don't have pollution controls, and are even worse air polluters than cars!), and hold off on refueling your car until evening, when the sun is low and temperatures have cooled off.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night after midnight as a cold front approaches. I'm concerned that the rain will possibly be spotty with not everybody will getting some, as we could use some rain right now. Muggy low temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Any Tuesday night showers should end by first thing Wednesday morning, with partly cloudy skies the rest of the day. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80.
