Forecast: Cooler with some afternoon rain in metro Detroit

DETROIT – Cloudy skies are producing spotty drizzle through the middle of your Wednesday around Metro Detroit.

But, rain will develop again during the afternoon and we may get a few periods of heavy rain.  It's cooler than we've been all week, with highs near 63 degrees. Northeast wind blowing today 5 to 15 mph. Temps will drop into the 50s as the afternoon rain covers SE Michigan.

Rains this afternoon and evening will increase flooding concerns both on area streams and in neighborhood basements. We are not under a risk for Severe Weather according to the Storm Prediction Center. But, our computer models show a few showers and storms in the area that could produce flash flooding and gusty winds closer to 6 or 7 p.m. The target appears to be over Southern Ontario closer to a frontal boundary.

Those showers will pick up again and drop heavy rain through the first half of Thursday. Again, more flooding problems are likely. Rain should let up through the early afternoon tomorrow and cooler temps will hover around 60 degrees with winds SE/SW 7-17 miles per hour.

Temps drop down into the upper 50s Friday and Saturday with spotty showers still hanging around SE Michigan. But the heaviest rains will exit late Thursday leaving lighter rain chances to end the week.

Friday looks mostly dry in the mid to upper 50s. And, afternoon showers Saturday are possible keeping temperatures in the mid to upper 50s.
