Finally…a nice day on tap But what about the weekend?

A clearing is moving steadily across the state and this will result in decreasing clouds this evening. The combination of clearing skies, a very cold air mass, dry air, and light wind means this will be an ideal night for radiational cooling…and what this means to you is a frosty start to your Friday. Temperatures overnight should drop into the upper 20s in the Urban Heat Island near Detroit, and down to the low-to-mid 20s (-4° Celsius for you Canadians) in the coldest spots. Brrrrrr. By the way, Detroit's official record low tonight is 27°, set way back in 1892!

Friday will feature wall-to-wall sunshine…finally a chance to use the sunglasses. Highs near 50° (10° Celsius), with west wind at 5 to 10 mph. Friday's sunrise is at 6:39 AM, and Friday's sunset is at 8:25 PM.

Increasing clouds Friday night, with lows in the mid 30s.

Saturday brings a chance of showers during the afternoon, but not necessarily for everybody. Best chance is near the state line, with diminishing chances the farther north you are. By the time we get north of I-69, it may just end up being a dry day. The computer models still do not agree on this weather system and its associated moisture passing to our south. The NAM is the driest model – keeping most of us dry, while the GFS and GEM models bring the rain farthest north. The normally reliable ECMWF model is right in the middle (channeling my inner Goldilocks this afternoon), and that's the model I chose to go with earlier today. Highs Saturday in the upper 40s.

Gradual clearing Saturday night, with lows in the low to mid 30s.

Partly cloudy to mostly sunny on Sunday, with highs in the mid 50s.

Then get ready for a broken record (Do young people even know what this means? Their music is in their phones, and they've probably never seen a record). For you young people, a broken record was one with a defect that kept playing the same part of the music over and over again. And that's what our weather will be for the coming week: partly cloudy from Monday through Thursday, with highs in the mid 50s early in the week rising to near 60° by midweek, and possibly into the 60s by the end of the week. Overnight lows generally in the 30s.
