Comfortable start to the holiday weekend

Afternoon highs in the upper 70s

DETROITFord Arts, Beats, and Eats/Jazz Festival: Gorgeous conditions today with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s. The lack of sunshine will keep us from 80° but some of you may get a bit warmer if we can squeeze out a little extra sun today. Either way, the rain is north today.

Saturday will bring very summer-like weather with heat and humidity on the rise. An approaching warm front will bring a few afternoon scattered showers to the area but don't cancel your plans. Download the free local4casters app and take the radar with you everywhere. Highs will hit low to mid 80s with muggy conditions most of the day.

Our best chances for rain will be late Saturday and hopefully it holds off until the overnight. Scattered to more widespread showers will blow through overnight into early Sunday but the latest model data downplays any major storms or downpours which is good news. Most of Sunday, other than a morning shower, looks dry and warm in the low 80s.

Labor Day looks iffy with low 80s and a few afternoon thundershowers. Again, the models indicate most of the wet weather will be late Monday into Tuesday. We may need the umbrellas heading back to school.

Friday's Michigan State Football game in East Lansing:  A few light showers and sprinkles are glancing East Lansing today and you may run into a few light showers before the 7:30pm kickoff Friday. Most of the evening will be dry with temps in the mid 70s falling to near 70 degrees by the end of the game. Tailgaters may get a few sprinkles, but conditions dry into the game. GO SPARTY!

Saturday's Michigan Football game in Ann Arbor:  Nothing like an early football game with the crowd in shorts and t-shirts. Yes, the heat and humidity build tomorrow with highs in the low to mid 80s. Sun and clouds for the noon kickoff with plenty of sunscreen! A warm front will destabilize the atmosphere a bit and we could see some rain and thundershowers firing up with the heat of the day which would be towards the tail end of the game in Ann Arbor. Warm and muggy weather steals the weather headlines but be prepared for spotty showers and storms all across SE Michigan into the mid to late afternoon.
