Detroit Public Schools closes again Wednesday

Other metro Detroit schools also announce Wednesday closures

DETROIT – Detroit Public Schools will be closed again Wednesday due to the winter weather.

The school district said the reason is safety. Many sidewalks are still not cleared of snow, and the district doesn't want students walking in the streets.

DPS COO Mark Schrupp released the following statement Tuesday night:

"All Detroit Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The safety and security of our students is at the forefront of all school closing decisions. The district's decision to close schools tomorrow is based on the continued unsafe walking conditions (particularly impassable sidewalks) created by the recent historic snowfall.

"It is also based on the up to four inches of additional snow expected overnight, which could make these conditions even more dangerous for our students as they travel to and from school.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and do what we believe is in the best interest of our more than 47,000 students."

DPS Central Offices will remain open Wednesday.

Other schools across metro Detroit are also announcing Wednesday closures.
