DETROIT -

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for Detroit and all of Southern Lower Michigan from Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night.

Monday morning will be cold, but dry with morning lows in the low 20s.  Sunshine will emerge and more melting will occur in the afternoon with highs in the middle 30s.  The wind will be light.

Monday's calm will give way to a storm brewing to Michigan's south.  Tuesday will become cloudy.  The system's warm sector arrives first with rain and a wintry mix by midday.  As it tracks east, temps fall and so will snow in the afternoon and evening.  Snow will be heavy at times Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with totals near 6 inches.

The snowstorm's forecast is preliminary. Stay tuned to Local 4 News and the Weather Page of ClickOnDetroit.com for any watches, warnings for forecast changes.
