ROYAL OAK, Mich. -

College application deadlines for early decision and early action have been extended for colleges and universities across the country, including University of Michigan, Harvard, Duke, Northwestern and Stanford. Michigan State University uses a rolling admission process and is not affected.

Wow Writing Workshop of Royal Oak, which works with college-bound students through workshops and a self-guided online tutorial for college application essay writing, offers the following advice for students who want to take advantage of the extended deadlines:

Make sure you are eligible for the extended deadline; some schools only extend the deadline for students affected by Sandy. If you have not started your essays, you still have time; you can always apply regular admission.

Wow will shorten turnaround time for essay review through this week from two business days to 24 hours to accommodate students affected by the storm.
