DETROIT -

The Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Golden Tate to a 5-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

The Lions were seeking to replace Nate Burleson as the receiver across from Calvin Johnson. Tate visited with the team on Wednesday to complete the deal.

Details of the deal have not been released.

NFL free agency officially opened up Tuesday afternoon, but the Lions had been quiet. They resigned running back Joique Bell to a three-year deal.

Tate, a former Notre Dame player, had 64 catches for just under 900 yards with five touchdowns last year with the Seattle Seahawks.
