Tigers' winning streak ends with loss to Astros

Detroit's eight-game winning streak snapped Thursday

DETROIT – The Houston Astros (11-24) avoided a four-game sweep Thursday with a 6-2 victory over the streaking Detroit Tigers (20-10). The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for Detroit.

Dallas Keuchel was phenomenal for the Astros, pitching 7 2/3 innings of two-run baseball. The Tigers mustered just six hits off of the lefty while striking out seven times.

Starter Drew Smyly cruised into the fifth inning for Detroit before being pulled after surrendering three runs. George Springer got Houston on the board with his first career home run, a blast to right field.

Carlos Corporan added a home run in the seventh, and Matt Dominguez capped the Houston scoring with a two-run shot in the ninth.

It was a quiet day for most of the Detroit offense, but Victor Martinez added three hits and his team-leading seventh home run. His hitting streak is now up to 11 games.

Detroit will look to rebound against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
