Tigers return home for series with NL's worst team

Teams haven't met since June 21, 2009

DETRIOT – The Detroit Tigers return home Monday after a successful weekend trip against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Tigers took two of three games against the best team in MLB and now welcome the last-place Brewers to Comerica Park.

After starting the season an MLB-worst 4-17 in April, Milwaukee has stopped the bleeding and played above .500 baseball over the past three weeks. But since firing their manager, Ron Roenicke, on May 3, the Brewers are just 6-7 and have lost four of their last five games.

These teams last met in June of 2009, when the Tigers swept a three-game series in Detroit. Zach Miner won the opening game, which ended after seven innings due to rain. Alfredo Figaro won the second game for the Tigers and Justin Verlander completed the sweep.

Miguel Cabrera is the only hitter on the Tigers' roster that played in that series, going 7-13 with two home runs, three RBI and six runs scored.

Kyle Lobstein will get his first look at the Brewers after losing his worst start of the season Wednesday. Lobstein allowed six earned runs in just 2.1 innings against the Twins and watched his ERA balloon from 3.00 to 4.33.

First Pitch: 7:08 p.m. on FSD

The Brewers who come into the game with the third fewest runs scored in the NL. Lobstein will have success if he can keep the ball down, as the Brewers have already hit 36 home runs this season and struggle to manufacture runs otherwise.

Opposing Lobstein will be Mike Fiers, who makes his first career start vs. Detroit. Fiers recorded just his second quality start of the season his last outing, holding the White Sox to two runs in 6.1 innings. He's gone at least six inning in just two of his seven starts and allows 1.5 home runs per nine innings.

Fiers' home run woes will continue if he makes a mistake to Cabrera, who is red-hot after the series in St. Louis. The Tigers' first baseman is 8-18 with four homers, nine RBI and six runs scored in his last four games.

Detroit enters the day trailing Kansas City by one game in the AL Central Division. With the Royals enjoying an off-day on Monday, a win would only pull the Tigers to within a half game

The series will conclude with night games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Anibal Sanchez and Shane Greene are scheduled to start for the Tigers.
