DETROIT – Detroit Tigers pitcher Daniel Norris announced via social media on Monday that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
"A few months ago, after I was optioned to AAA, I found out I had a growth on my thyroid," he posted on Instagram.
Norris said in the post that he is planning to undergo surgery.
" ... so please keep me in your thoughts & prayers as I undergo surgery & come out 100% cancer free!"
Norris, 22, was the centerpiece of the package Toronto sent to Detroit in the Price deal. The left-handed pitcher is one who the Tigers hope to see at the top of the rotation for many years.
