New downtown arena to host 2018 NCAA tournament

First and second round games will be played downtown

DETROIT – The Red Wings new downtown arena has been selected to host early-round games during the 2018 NCAA Men's basketball tournament.

Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Dallas, Boise, San Diego and Wichita will also host first-and-second-round games for the 2018 tournament.

The new arena is scheduled to open in time for the 2017-2018 hockey season.

Metro Detroit last hosted the NCAA tournament in 2013, when early round games were played at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
