Michigan's premier season-opening prep football event announces 10th anniversary matchups

The Detroit Sports Commission announced Wednesday the matchups for the 10th Anniversary Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic.

The event is scheduled to take place Aug. 28-30 at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University.

Highlighted by eight games that include six new teams and 12 playoff teams from last season, the Prep Kickoff Classic lineup will feature defending and past state champions, five first-time matchups and rivalry games, the organization said.

"The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to announce its 10th anniversary lineup," said Dave Beachnau, DSC executive director. "We look forward to celebrating this commemorative year with a must-see line-up of games featuring top teams and top players."

Thursday, Aug. 28
--1 p.m. - West Bloomfield vs. Dearborn
--4 p.m. - Temperance Bedford vs. Dearborn Fordson
--7 p.m. - Allen Park vs. Melvindale

Friday, Aug. 29
--1 p.m. - Warren Mott vs. Detroit Cody
--4 p.m. - Orchard Lake St. Mary's vs. Southfield
--7 p.m. - Detroit Cass Tech vs. Oak Park

Saturday, Aug. 30
--11 a.m. - Detroit East English Village Prep vs. Lansing Sexton
--2 p.m. - Birmingham Brother Rice vs. Chicago Brother Rice

Formerly known as the Big Day Prep Showdown, the event has featured some of the Midwest's top players.

The commission said 77 players who participated in last year's event signed National Letters of Intent with NCAA Division I, II, II and NAIA schools on National Signing Day Feb. 5.
