ROCHESTER, Mich. – There was no clear winner throughout most of the match Tuesday night under the clear sky as the Michigan State women's soccer team battled the Oakland University women into the final minutes.
Both teams had 10 shots on goal and 3 corner shots, but one difference would end up deciding the winner. Michigan State grabbed the lone goal and shutout.
Freshman forward Jamie Cheslik (No. 15) made sure the match would end in regulation time with her explosive breakaway and shot in the 89th minute. She put the ball past Oakland goalkeeper Alison Holland and into the top left pocket of the net. The goal was assisted by midfielder Megan Marsack (No. 10).

It was the second shutout for Michigan State senior goalie Courtney Clem, who was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. She posted two shutouts this week in games against Oakland and Eastern Michigan.
The Oakland women next travel to Central Michigan University for a match at 4 p.m. Friday. Michigan State heads back home to host IPFW at 5 p.m. Friday and Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Sunday in East Lansing.
