ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan came out Friday night at home ready to take on the Big Ten's No. 12 Maryland.
The Wolverines held their own and the play was pretty even for the two squads in the first half. The home team got 3 shots on net while the Terrapins had 2.

The second half was full steam ahead, however, as Michigan had 7 shots on goal and Maryland had 10. Michigan Junior William Mellors-Blair (Detroit City FC fans have come to know him simply as "WMB") had 3 of those shots along with a great chance in the 46th minute.
Throughout the entire match, Michigan goalkeeper Adam Grinwis (who also plays for the PDL National Champion Michigan Bucks) snagged attempt after attempt from Maryland. It looked as though coach Chaka Daley's Wolverines would pull out the win when junior forward James Murphy slotted his first goal of the season in the 74th minute with the assist by Rylee Woods.

Michigan held that lead until there were 21 seconds left in the game. That's when Maryland's Alex Crognale got the ball to David Kabelik who was able to sneak it past Grinwis's seemingly unbreakable goal line to tie up the game at 1 all.
The game went into two overtimes but the score remained the same.
This was the Big Ten opener for both teams and both walked away with conference records of 0-0-1.
Michigan's next game is at home this 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 16 against Bowling Green in non-conference action.
