Local teams play for USSSA AA World Series in Canton

Baseball tournament began Thursday, concludes Sunday

These are the best of the best when you talk about travel baseball teams in the country.

Ninety-two teams, aged 9-14 converged on Canton this weekend for the USSSA double-A World Series. That's nearly 1,200 kids, proving if you host a tournament like this one, they will come.

"This is great for the sport of baseball," USSSA Michigan State Director Don DeDonatis said. "There are a ton of teams, a lot of players. They are all spending a lot of money so these kids can live out their dreams."

The tournament began Thursday and concludes Sunday with the crowning of six champions in their age groups.

Some teams traveled hundreds of miles from different states. Other teams qualified right here from Michigan.

"It's nice to play the better teams, especially when you beat them," Ryan Nawrocki, a player with the Macomb Storm said.

The players said they're having fun, but they're here for a reason. They want to win a World Series Title.

"We're doing much better this year," Andrew Zuniga, a 9-year-old from Frankenmuth said. "This is a big deal."
