Detroit Lions hire Rod Wood as new president

Advisory Board created to manage GM search

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The Detroit Lions will finish out the 2015 season with some measure of front office stability.

The team has hired Rod Wood as their new president. They also established an advisory board for their general manager search. Wood, 55, will oversee the Lions business operations.

He previously served as president and CEO of Ford Estates. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of Wealth Management for the Wilmington Trust Company in Wilmington, Del.

Earlier this month, owner Martha Ford fire team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew has a disappointing 1-7 start.

"Rod's familiarity with our organization in his role as President and CEO of Ford Estates and his accomplishments in the business world not only make him an ideal choice as Team President, but will also help ensure a smooth and positive transition for our organization," said Ford.

Sheldon White, a former Lion player and longtime member of the team's front office, was named interim general manager following Mayhew's dismissal.

Last Sunday, following the firings and a bye week, the Lions managed to win their first road game against Green Bay in 24 years.
