DETROIT -

Former Detroit Tigers pinch hitter Gates Brown has died. He was 74.

Brown, or "Gator" as fans knew him, is considered one of the greatest pinch hitters of all time. He played for Detroit from 1963 through 1975.

He was a part of the 1968 World Series Championship team.
