Media reports say the Tigers have picked the person to fill the team's managerial shoes left vacant by Jim Leyland.

DETROIT -

The Detroit Tigers have scheduled a 4:30 p.m. press conference at Comerica Park to discuss details of the hiring of a new manager.

According to numerous reports, former Major League Baseball player Brad Ausmus has been tapped to be the team's next skipper - replacing Jim Leyland.

Ausmus played catcher for the Tigers in 1996, as well as 1999 - 2000.

The 44-year-old is currently working in the front office of the San Diego Padres.

Ausmus is expected to be in Detroit Sunday to finalize the deal.
