Detroit police investigate allegations of sexual assault against Tigers pitcher Evan Reed

Local 4 learns sex assault allegedly happened at MotorCity Casino Hotel last week

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating allegations of sexual assault against Tigers pitcher Evan Reed.

Local 4 has learned it allegedly happened at MotorCity Casino Hotel on March 30, the day before Opening Day.

A complaint has been filed against 28-year-old Reed and Detroit police have an active investigation underway. How valid the claims are by the accuser, a 45-year-old woman, are at this point a mystery.

But the issue is no mystery to the ball club. The Detroit Tigers send out a statement Monday night reading:

"The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed. This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time."

Reed's attorney, former Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca, said the following on behalf of his client Monday night:

"I was informed this morning that the Detroit Police Department has opened an investigation involving Evan Reed. We are very confident that once a thorough and full investigation is completed, Mr. Reed will have nothing to fear.

"During the infancy of this investigation, no one should formulate any conclusions that a crime has been committed. Mr. Reed is currently on a 7-day west coast road trip and has not been contacted by the Detroit Police Department. We plan on cooperating with the investigation when the time is appropriate. Until then, no further comment will be made by me or Mr. Reed."
