David Price: Top pitcher available on trade market

Price: 11-8, 3.11 ERA, 189 SO in 2014

As many of the bigger pieces fall into place Thursday, the battle for the top pitcher on the market continues. David Price has pitched like a Cy Young candidate since the beginning of June, and with the Rays on the fringes of the playoff race, the right offer could send the dynamite lefty to a more secure contender.

Below are some of the teams that could have a chance to acquire Price.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers' name always pops up when high-profile names are discussed, mostly because of the organizations recent willingness to dish out any amount of money for top players.

But the Dodgers have recently faltered in their interest after learning the Rays' asking price, and seem like an outsider at this point.

Los Angeles Angels

The front office in Anaheim has to be scrambling after the Oakland Athletics took yet another All-Star pitcher off the market in acquiring Jon Lester. Price could be the answer for the Angels, who trail the A's by 2.5 games in the AL West despite owning the second best record in the MLB.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers' name has arisen late in the talks for Price after the A's made the move for Lester. Though a trade might not get done before 4 p.m., Dave Dombrowski seems to be considering his options in regard to Price, according to some tweets from Jon Morosi.
