DETROIT -

The Plymouth Whalers have erased a 2-0 series deficit.

The Whalers topped the Guelph Storm Thursday night, 5-2, to even the opening round playoff series at 2-2.

Whalers left winger Mitchell Heard put in the go-ahead goal in the third period. Alex Aleardi gave Plymouth two more insurance goals and the Storm couldn't rally back.

Guelph outshot Plymouth 14-7 in the first period and had two goals waived off.

Whalers goalie Scott Wedgewood gave a solid performance with 31 saves.

Despite a shaky start, Plymouth outshot Guelph 34-33.

They will look to take the lead in this series in Game 5 on Saturday at Compuware Arena.
