Michigan State women face Marist in NCAA tourney

EAST LANSING, Mich. -

Michigan State's women's basketball team is a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face Marist in the first round.

The Spartans (24-8) travel to College Park, Md., for Saturday's game. Michigan State is in the NCAA tournament for the 13th time. The Spartans are 9-2 in first-round games.

Michigan State finished tied for third in the Big Ten. The Spartans and Iowa are the only Big Ten schools that have reached the last five NCAA tournaments.

If Michigan State beats Marist (26-6), the Spartans play the winner of the game between Maryland (24-7) and Quinnipiac (30-2).
