The Michigan State University Spartans and the University of Michigan Wolverines are facing off in a regular season CCHA rematch game at Joe Louis Arena on February 2.
Previously, the Wolverines upstaged the Spartans in a 5-2 victory in the 2012 Great Lakes Invitational third-place game in December.
"The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry is one of the best in college hockey," said Michigan head coach Red Berenson. "When we play at Joe Louis Arena, not only does it give our team a chance to play at an NHL venue, it also gives more fans a chance to enjoy this game. Playing at The Joe is fun for everyone."
Entering its 23rd consecutive year hosted at Joe Louis Arena, the UM-MSU rivalry game will be the second in the line-up of three 'College Hockey in the D' events presented by Olympia Entertainment.
Student tickets will be sold for as low as $12 and groups of 20 or more can be purchased for as low as $7 each.
“Our rivalry with Michigan is the best in college hockey and we always enjoy the opportunity to play this game on an NHL stage at Joe Louis Arena and in the city of Detroit,” says Spartans head coach Tom Anastos. “It is an experience that both our players and fans really enjoy and one that is important to our program as well as college hockey in the region. Our program has played a lot of memorable games at The Joe, and we’re excited to add another chapter to our rivalry with Michigan in February.”
The game will mark the 294th meeting between the two teams, which is the most played rivalry in college hockey.
The Wolverines hold a 25-18-5 advantage in games played at Joe Louis Arena against Michigan State.
