Michigan Humane Society rescues puppies left in bin on side of road in Detroit

Puppies will go up for adoption

DETROIT – Five puppies that were rescued from a storage bin that was found on the side of a road in Detroit are recovering and will be up for adoption soon.

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) said rescue workers were tipped off March 6 to the bin's location, which was near West Grand Boulevard and Woodward Avenue, and found the puppies.

MHS rescue driver, Chris Ouwekerk brought the puppies to the shelter, where they were seen by a veterinarian, given vaccinations, and set up with food, water, blankets and toys.

"It is always disheartening when people make the choice to abandon their animals, leaving them at great risk," said Debby MacDonald, MHS chief cruelty investigator. "It is also illegal to do so. If you cannot, for any reason, care for your pets, please bring them to a shelter where they can receive the care they need."

The puppies are shepherd/terrier mixes.

One of the puppies, Snowcap, has already found her forever home. Her siblings, Taylor, Dana, Oscar and Raisinette, are currently in a foster home fighting an upper respiratory infection.
