DETROIT – Construction crews will begin to implement traffic shifts on Woodward Avenue after Labor Day in preparation for demolition of the Interstate 75 bridge.
"Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 2, traffic will shift to the northbound lanes of Woodward Avenue over I-75," said Paul Childs, M-1 RAIL chief operating officer. "For drivers it means northbound, and southbound traffic and the center turn lane will be on the east side of Woodward."

The service drives will reopen when the demolition and reconstruction of the west side of the bridge is done. The entrance ramp will be closed until after the bridge work.
"The northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives on the west side of Woodward will be closed along with the entrance ramp at Clifford Street," Childs said.
The demolition and reconstruction is a part of MDOT's investment along the corridor, in coordination with the M-1 RAIL streetcar project. MDOT will release information about the necessary I-75 Fisher Freeway closures scheduled for Sept. 12-15 in the coming days.
The west side of the I-75 bridge at Woodward Avenue and the service drives will be closed. Drivers will have to cross on the east side of Woodward Avenue either at Sibley Street or Elizabeth Street.
Alternative I-75 Fisher Freeway Traffic Routes: Through late 2015
•Downtown: Take M-10 North at Jefferson or Abbott to access I-75 North/South or take I-375 at Madison or North of Monroe to access I-75 North/South
•North of downtown: Enter I-75 North/South at Mack or Warren
•North of I-94: Enter at West Grand Boulevard to access I-75 North/South
