Detroit had a string of carjackings between 5 p.m. yesterday and 1a.m. this morning.

For the past 23 years, “Mama” Lou Ferrell has been serving customers at L George’s Coney Island on Detroit’s northwest side.

But on the way to start her overnight shift Wednesday night, Ferrell said she was greeted by crime scene tape.

Police said a 27-year-old woman was sitting in her car in the nearby parking lot of Nick’s Bar and Grill when she was shot in the stomach and nearly carjacked.

Ferrell said the victim is one of her frequent customers.

The victim is expected to recover and police said they will review any video from surveillance cameras in the area.
