Small fire burns at Westland coney island

Westland firefighters worked to douse a small blaze Tuesday afternoon at the Village Place Coney Island on North Wayne Road just north of Cherry Hill Road.

The fire was contained to one part of the restaurant -- the attic -- as firefighters surrounded the place. There is noticeable damage to the outside of building.

According to the Wayne-Westland Fire Authority, the fire was contained to the attic. No flames reached the main part of the restaurant. There is extensive damage to the attic.

Wayne Road had to be shut down temporarily.

No injuries were reported. The restaurant happened to be closed at the time of the fire.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
