1 killed in crash on westbound I-96 in Detroit

Multi-vehicle crash happened around 4 a.m. in westbound lanes near Livernois

DETROIT – Michigan State Police say a 21-year-old woman was killed early Wednesday morning when the SUV she was driving rolled over on westbound I-96 near Grand River Avenue.

Police say witnesses reported seeing a Cadillac Escalade going at a high rate of speed around 4 a.m. before losing control and crashing. The victim was ejected from the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The victim's name has not been released by police.

Two other vehicles were damaged as a result of the crash, but no one else was seriously hurt.

Police said it appears the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.

The immediate area was shut down for four hours before it reopened.
