Wayne County hiring officers for jail positions

Wayne County looking for up to 60 new officers

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Wayne County is looking for up to 60 new officers to work for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in one of the three county jails.

Candidates will be assigned to complete a 160-hour Jailer Training Academy. New hires will be assigned to work in one of the jails on any available shift after graduating.

New hires are paid a salary of $28,284 per year based on a 40-hour work week, a retention bonus of $1,200 per year, and health care and other benefits.

Eligible applicants must:

  • be 18 years of age
  • have a high school diploma or GED
  • be qualified to obtain a concealed pistol license
  • have a valid Michigan Driver's License
  • have passed all of the Michigan Sheriff's Coordinating and Training Council's pre-employment requirements, including the reading/writing examination and physical agility test. Further information is at http://misctc.org/standards.html
