Victim finds purse in garbage can with credit card, cash, gift card, makeup missing

WATERFORD, Mich. – Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman they say stole several items from another woman's purse in Waterford.

Officers responded to VG's Grocery Store in the 7300 block of Highland Road for a larceny.

Arriving officers spoke with a 39-year-old woman from White Lake, who told officers that another woman had stolen several items from her purse, including her credit card and $100 cash.

The victim told officers that she accidentally left her purse in the restroom of the business and upon returning to the restroom 10 minutes later she found her purse in the garbage can, according to Waterford police.

She said her credit card, cash, gift card and makeup had been stolen, police said.

Authorities said the victim immediately called her credit card company to cancel the card and was informed the card had been used in VG's store, along with another purchase at a local gas station for a total amount of $102.30.

The woman seen on surveillance video was described by police as a white woman in her mid to late 20s who has medium dark hair and a heavy set build. Police said she wore a white long-sleeve shirt, black vest, gray pants and black shoes.

The woman also had a girl with her that was 2 to 4 years old, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may know the woman or have any information about the incident to call Waterford Police Detective Michael Morgan at 248-618-6664. To stay anonymous, police said to call the tip line at 248-674-COPS.
