TSA: Livonia man found with loaded semi-automatic handgun at Detroit Metro Airport

DETROIT – A Livonia man was arrested by Wayne County Airport Police early Sunday morning after Transportation Security Administration officers at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the man's carry-on bag.

In a statement, TSA said the 5.7 mm FNH semi-automatic firearm was loaded with 20 rounds, with an extra magazine that had 20 additional rounds in it. This specific gun is known for its body armor piercing capability, meaning that it is able to penetrate bullet-proof vests.

The gun was found at a security checkpoint.

The gun was confiscated and the man arrested on a weapons charge.

Passengers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA up to $11,000.
