DETROIT -

Police are trying to piece together a freak accident where a tire flew off a vehicle involved in a crash and hit and critically injured a pedestrian in Detroit.

The two-vehicle crash happened in the area of Seven Mile and Fairport Road. A tire from one of the vehicles flew about 25 feet and hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk in front of a business. The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The window of the business the pedestrian was standing in front of was also damaged.

The people inside the vehicles involved in the crash are okay.
