BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Neighborhoods in Birmingham and Grosse Pointe have been the target of thieves with specific tastes.
Those thieves are looking for GPS and entertainment systems from Buick Enclave crossovers and Chrysler minivans.
Kristin Impastato of Birmingham got a call from police in the middle of the night.
"He said you car's been broken into, the driver's side window had been cracked open," Impastato said.
She found the GPS and entertainment system of the vehicle had been torn out of the dashboard.
The thief also used the garage door opener and came very close to entering the home.
"The garage door opener was in the car and our garage door was open. I know for sure it was closed. We had our alarm on but it is still scary," Impastato said.
In the same Birmingham neighborhood, near 14 Mile and Southfield Roads. two other Buick Enclaves and a Chrysler minivan were broken into and their GPS and entertainment systems taken.
Grosse Pointe police also report Buick Enclaves and other vehicles were broken into in three different neighborhoods earlier this month.
The GPS and entertainment systems were taken from those vehicles.
Police say victims have reported a red Jeep vehicle and a tan van with a loud muffler that might be linked to the crimes.
Police also believe the thieves may soon move on to other communities.
