DETROIT -

A man in his teens was taken to the hospital Friday night after he was shot in a school parking lot in Detroit, police say.

The Detroit Public Schools Police Department and Detroit police responded to the scene Friday night in the parking lot of East English Village Preparatory Academy.

An event was being held at the school called "The Grammy's," an awards ceremony for seniors and their parents.

A fight broke out after the event in the school's parking lot. Authorities said the teen was shot in the head. EMS transported the teen to the hospital.

It's unclear if the teen is a student at the school. Police did not provide his condition Friday night.
