Candlelight vigil held to honor 2 Taylor officers killed in line of duty

Family, friends remember Cpl. Matthew Edwards, Auxiliary Lt. Dan Kromer killed in 2010

TAYLOR, Mich. – A community honored the lives of two police officers killed in the line of duty at a vigil held Saturday night in Taylor.

Family and friends of Cpl. Matthew Edwards and Auxiliary Lt. Dan Kromer remembered them for the heroes they were, putting their lives on the line to protect others.

It's been four years since Edwards and Kromer were killed, but the pain for the families is still there.

In 2010, Edwards was the first Taylor police officer killed in the line of duty, and 46 days later, Kromer died on the job.

Saturday night was a moment to reflect not on how they died, but the lives they lived.

More than 100 people lit candles to show their support for two families and a community mourning the loss of loved ones. This was the second annual candlelight vigil for Taylor police.

In July 2010, 31-year-old Edwards was shot and killed during a robbery investigation. He left behind a wife and two small children. Kromer was 54 when he was struck by a car and killed on I-94 while helping a stranded motorist in September 2010.

The Taylor Police Department said it will continue holding an annual candlelight vigil to help the community heal and show it will never forget the ultimate sacrifice.
