DETROIT – A developer with ties to Metro Detroit is interested in buying the unfinished Wayne County jail site to build a new soccer stadium and entertainment complex.
The Toronto-based development company Triple Properties already owns the Pontiac Silverdome and the Penobscot Building in downtown Detroit.

Now the company is proposing a $1 billion project for housing, office towers, a shopping mall and a stadium for a professional soccer team.
"We'd like to bring a soccer team to Detroit," said developer Andreas Apostolopolous. "All the other sports teams are down here and we only need a soccer team. That's all."
The proposed soccer stadium would seat up to 30,000 people.
Quicken Loans owner Dan Gilbert has also expressed interest in the site.
