Police struggle for leads as slain Armada teen laid to rest

Funeral held Friday for 14-year-old April Millsap

VILLAGE OF ARMADA, Mich. – As police continue to ask for tips looking for new leads, the town of Armada came out to pay its last respects to 14-year-old April Millsap, who was found murdered along the Macomb Orchard Trail more than a week ago.

Life in the tiny village of Armada has come to a standstill ever since Millsap's body was found near the trail eight days ago.

She had been walking her dog, Penny, when she was killed. An ominous text message to her boyfriend read, "I think I'm about to be kidnapped."

In the days since, friends, family and neighbors have wrapped the entire town in pink ribbons and bows.

It was a heartbreaking day Friday as the young girl was laid to rest.

Meanwhile, the hunt for her killer continues. Michigan State Police and the FBI have received hundreds of tips, but no one has been arrested in connection to Millsap's death.

On Friday, state police were searching Omo Lake. Millsap's body was found near the lake.
