Skydiver lost control during descent, struck woman on ground causing severe injuries

RAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A skydiver passed away Saturday evening after sustaining critical injuries during a jump  in Macomb County.

Michigan State Police say 34-year-old Kenneth Ryan Bernek of Waterford started falling out of control during his descent.  Bernek struck a tree before colliding with a 53-year-old woman who was standing on the ground.  Both were rushed to the hospital.

Police say Bernek died from his injuries. The female victim from Ray Township is being treated for her injuries and is expected to be released.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused Bernek to lose control during his descent.
