Shelby Township businesses on alert for knife-wielding robber

Police seek man who robbed 3 businesses in past week

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The manager of Dr. Quinn Weight Loss was told by Shelby Township police that the person suspected in these robberies appears to be targeting businesses with female employees.

Shelby Township police have a group of detectives going over surveillance video which isn't being released to the public at this time. They also are adding extra patrols to the areas that have been targeted.

An employee at Dr. Quinn Weight Loss told police the man went through the front door, approached her with a knife and demanded money. He then reportedly left through the back door before he was seen getting into a black Mazda with tinted windows and blue and white Michigan license plates.

Police said the man, who got away with an undisclosed amount of money, also robbed Vim and Vigor Health Food Store on Friday and Arena Bridal Salon earlier on Monday.

Sherri Vincent is the general manager at Christine's Bakery, a business that's in the same plaza as Dr. Quinn Weight Loss. Her mainly female staff is on high alert.

"We're normally open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. I keep saying thank goodness we weren't open Monday night. I can only imagine how scared the women were because I know my women are scared to death," said Vincent. "I've already advised my morning staff if anyone comes in give them whatever they want, it doesn't matter. It's all insured. It's not worth it. We are talking with our staff and advising them to lock their car doors and lock the back door. I know it's going to be an inconvenience to have to unlock everything to let employees in but our safety is most important. It takes forever to turn onto Hayes, especially making a left. There is so much traffic with all of the construction on 21 Mile and Hall roads. A quick escape? I don't think so."
