Red Wings to retire Nick Lidstrom's jersey March 6

The number 5 to join six other retired jerseys at Joe Louis Arena

DETROIT – The number 5 will hang from the rafters of Joe Louis Arena as the Red Wings honor Nick Lidstrom on March 6.

The retired defenseman's number will join six other numbers belonging to Terry Sawchuck(1), Ted Lindsay(7), Gordie Howe(9), Alex Delvecchio(10), Sid Abel(12) and Steve Yzerman(19).

According to the Red Wings, doors to the arena open at 5:30pm. The ceremony begins promptly at 6:30pm and lasts until 7:20p.m.

The start of the game between the Wings and Avalanche has been pushed back to 8:00 p.m.

The hockey team announced that Wings legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio will attend the ceremony along with Lidstrom's former teammates Steve Yzerman, Chris Chelios, Brendan Shanahan, Igor Larionov and Vladimir Konstantinov.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the ceremony. This will mark the team's 133rd consecutive sellout.
