Reactions to Supreme Court's gay marriage ruling

January 23, 2012: Jayne Rowse and April DeBoer challenge the state's ban on adoption by same-sex couples seeking to jointly adopt their children. The lawsuit was amended to challenge the ban's "underlying issue," Michigan's gay marriage ban before going to trial.

The landmark ruling Friday affirming the right of same-sex couples to marry has prompted reaction from national and Michigan political figures.

"Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins" – President Barack Obama, on Twitter

Gary Peters
